BAHMAN KARIMZADEH

My name is Bahman Karimzadeh. I grew up in a family of ten. I have five brothers, three sisters, and a mom and dad. I am from the Northern part of Iran by the Caspian sea in a city called Kouchesfahan. The government changed to an Islamic Republic in 1978 when I was 13. The government brought fanaticism to the country and that was against my value system. My Father was also very religious It was a very hard time for me. It also became illegal to be a male hairstylist touching women's hair.
I always wanted to be a hairstylist. Then my goal was abruptly halted. The government drafted me against my wishes and I went to the Iran Iraq war.
When I was drafted to go to war (1985 to 1988) I saw so much and so many ugly things. I dreamt to learn about beauty and live with it to the rest of my life. I couldn't achieve my goal in a dictatorship government so I exiled in March 1990. I had to say goodbye to my home, love and everything else that I had gained in 25 years of my life. But I wished for a better future. I had to do it, and I had to to do it without anyone knowing. I bought a bus ticket to Istanbul and from there i went to Ankara the Capital of Turkey where the UN is and there I applied for political asylum. Apparently, the government did not want me to leave the country and they had given my name to every airport to stop me. But they didn't know that I left by ground. Living 18 months in Turkey I saw for first time a male stylist working on a woman's hair. I couldn't wait for that time to come.
I got my Canadian status on October 27, 1992 and chose Vancouver, Canada to live because it reminded me of home the forever green landscape. I attended ESL classes provided by government and during that time I took advantage of going to Hannover Germany for a family reunion the new home of my brother. When I saw my mom I told her that i want to be a hairstylist. My Mom said, "I'm not so surprised, because when you were a child any time you touched my hair I was lulled to sleep."
Back in Vancouver I learned enough English to be able to enroll in Cosmetology school in Vancouver community college in 1996. It was so hard that made me cry in the classroom. Because of the hard Latin language of the course, only nine of the students passed the test and I was one of them. I was so proud of myself and my achievements. The administration told me that they have an offer for you to work at Super Cuts, and I told them that was an insult to me because my work worth more than that! I told them that I'm going to apply at a high end salon. They laughed and said that they liked my attitude towards my career and wished me luck. I started working in West Vancouver at Reymond salon ( now called Henessy’s) and never had to do a cheap job.
I had always believed in giving more attention, creativity, a sense of generosity and love for my work. I knew that it would put a big and beautiful smile on my client's face. I had also decided to stay on top of the latest trends in fashion and services. I knew this would make a happier client. So, one year after working, I  enrolled at the prestigious Vidal Sassoon Academy for a classic cut and color course. After finishing that I wanted to know where I stood in an eyes of a professional. So I entered my work into a competition, and between fifty four competitors I placed third  in the British Columbia. I had learned a little bit of scalp massage and stimulation from my cosmetology courses. When I practiced on my clients, I found that it was very beneficial for them. So I enrolled into a Chinese Reflexology school in Vancouver and got certified as a Reflexologist.
In two years I gained over 260 clients. On a trip to Los Angeles,  I got a job offer in Marina Del Rey, Los Angeles. One more time I decided to leave and say goodbye. It wasn't easy to do. But I knew that a brighter future was waiting for me and working in a bigger city brought me more options. I was excited to explore them all. I assisted a master of air-brush body painter. Getting close to Hollywood and celebrities brought more excitement to my life. I did many weddings and up-dos and shared the pleasure bringing elegance and beauty to their wedding. My goal was to go on to make-up school and learn about beauty bridal and special effects make-up. However one day in August 2004 a woman came for hair cut, she was a homeopathic consultant from Santa Monica Homeopathic Pharmacy and she won my heart. I found myself even more close to hollywood and celebrity from her friends. She changed my life, my perspective and the way of looking at it. When I came to Santa Cruz to meet her family I fell in love with the city and her family and everything else and it felt like home. I Married her on March 4, 2004, had a beautiful boy named Amir on March 20 2005 and moved to Santa Cruz August 2006. I was near my new family and I had another son named Rumi on June 15, 2007. I decided to spend most of my attention and energy on costumers and the public, so I can teach them about home care education and show them how just a little care and love can bring a priceless result.
There is a lot more, but I think I should stop right here before it becomes a thick book.
I love my work and I love my clients/friends and I look forward to going to work everyday!
